Georgetown University Cracks the U.S. News Top 25


Georgetown University recently joined the ranks of the best universities in the country, according to U.S. News. The magazine’s [ranking of universities and colleges](http://colleges.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/best-colleges/rankings/national-universities) listed Georgetown at number 20. The list, headlined by Princeton, Harvard and the University of Chicago, comes out annually.

Seeing Georgetown crack the top 25 is no surprise to Washington natives and others. The school’s alumni include former U.S. president and potential first gentleman Bill Clinton, actor Bradley Cooper and Hall of Fame basketball player Patrick Ewing.

In addition to being in a three-way tie for number 20 in the national rankings, Georgetown ranked number 34 in best-value Schools, number 15 in business programs and number 6 in international business.

A private institution founded in 1789, Georgetown is the oldest Catholic university in the country. With a total undergraduate enrollment of 7,562, the student body is approximately 55 percent female and 45 percent male. The student-faculty ratio is 11 to 1 and the acceptance rate is 13 percent. Tuition for 2016-17 is $50,547.

Georgetown comprises several undergraduate, graduate and professional schools, including the highly ranked Robert Emmett McDonough School of Business, the Law Center, the School of Medicine, the School of Nursing and Health Studies and McCourt School of Public Policy. Georgetown’s Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service also offers well-regarded graduate programs.
