Top D.C. Litigator, Georgetown Law Professor Shot in Turks & Caicos

Michael Jones, a litigation partner at the Kirkland & Ellis law firm on 15th Street and an adjunct professor at Georgetown University Law Center was shot in the upper body during an armed burglary July 28, while on a family vacation.

Jones, 57, was flown to a Hollywood, Florida, hospital. He is expected to make a full recovery, according to Kirkland & Ellis LLP, where Jones is a top lawyer for the elite law firm, headquartered in Chicago, with offices in China, Germany and the U.K.

While there was an alarm system and security guard, who was “lightly bound,” according to the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force, two suspects ran off with a laptop. No arrests have been made.

This was the second shooting of an American in the usually tranquil and increasingly popular Turks & Caicos in just over a month. On June 23, Kevin Newman of Alabama was shot and is now in recovery.
