‘Light Up the Season’ Switches on the Yuletide

Christmas trees, wreathes, mantelpieces and a menorah greet visitors to the Four Seasons Hotel in Georgetown — all to benefit Children’s National Health System and to make everyone smile.

The festive decor — created by local designers who were paired with patients for inspiration — fills the lobby and some corridors of the hotel. A kickoff party at the hotel Nov. 29 was as festive as it was lively with light fare, Champagne and specialty drinks. Santa Claus was played by Tim Connaghan, also known as National Santa, who “has served in the Red Suit since 1969,” taking the lead for Toys for Tots and the Hollywood Christmas Parade. Of course, everyone wanted their picture taken with him.

The decorations are for sale and will be at the hotel through Dec. 20. They’re part of the family-friendly “Light Up the Season” party to be held Sunday, Dec. 3, for Children’s National. The fun-filled afternoon will include activities for all ages, such as cookie decorating, ornament making, a visit from Santa and Children’s National’s Dr. Bear mascot, musical performances and youth entertainers and a silent auction, plus light fare and libations. Guests will be encouraged to write holiday cards for Children’s National patients.
