In Memoriam: Portrait Gallery Displays Barbara Bush Photo (Video)

The Smithsonian’s National Portrait Gallery honored the life of Barbara Bush with an informal photograph taken by Diana Walker in 1989. The portrait, which shows the former first lady on the White House grounds with her springer spaniel, Millie, by her side, was installed April 18, a day after her death, in the museum’s In Memoriam space on the first floor. It will remain on view through Sunday, April 29.

The National Portrait Gallery, part of the Donald W. Reynolds Center for American Art and Portraiture, Eighth and F Streets NW in Washington, D.C., is open daily from 11:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Admission is free.
