50 More Years of D.C.’s Art Explosion


Mayor Muriel Bowser kicked off a memorable night at the Lincoln Theatre commemorating the 50th Anniversary of the D.C. Commission on the Arts and Humanities by presenting the 2018 Life Time Achievement Award to acclaimed native Washingtonian GoGo band – Rare Essence. The Sept. 25 gala honored artists throughout the city for their many contributions to film, music, mixed media and literary work. Winners of the 33rd Annual Mayor’s Arts Awards included the Young Playwrights Theatre, the DC Jazz Festival, Chloe and Maud Arnold, the African American Civil War Museum, Cory L. Stowers, Elizabeth Acevedo and Madeline Freedberg.
