Georgetown Overwhelms Howard 102-67 in Hoops Action (photos)


The Georgetown University Hoyas (10-3) soundly defeated their city rival, the Howard University Bison (6-8) 102-67 on Saturday afternoon, Dec. 29 in basketball action at the Capital One Arena in Washington D.C.

The Bison scored the first 7 points and led 10-4, but the Hoyas scored the next 15 points and never looked back. Georgetown’s senior center Jessie Govan had 23 points and 10 rebounds for his fourth double-double of the season, while freshman Josh LeBlanc had 22, a career high, taking down 11 boards for the third double-double of his career. LeBlanc was a perfect 7 for 7 from the field. Howard’s R.J. Cole led all scorers with 28 points. Charles Williams added 24 for the Bison.

The Hoyas scored 62 points in the 2nd half and broke the 100 point threshhold for the 2nd consecutive game. The last time the Hoyas scored 100 points in back-to-back games was during the 1966-67 season.

The Hoyas’ played the game without freshman phenom Mac McClung who is recovering from an ankle injury suffered during practice, and Trey Mourning (concussion protocol). Georgetown will open Big East play at Butler in Indianapolis on Wednesday. That game will be shown live on MASN2 regionally and on FSN. The Hoyas’ next home game will be against St. John’s next Saturday at 1 PM.
