Hoyas Crush Marist in Football Home Opener (photos)


A spirited Georgetown football squad (1-1) got off to a flying start with a 43-3 drubbing of the Marist College Red Foxes (1-1) in their home opener at Cooper Field on Saturday, Sept. 7. The Hoyas gained 424 total yards (272 on the ground) and scored their most points in a game since 2011 (also against Marist). Georgetown completed all of its scoring in the first three quarters.

Standout performers included quaterback Gunther Johnson, who completed nine of his 14 passes and rushed for 68 yards and two touchdowns. Herman Moultrie III rushed 20 times for 104 yards and a touchdown. In the first series in his college career, Georgetown backup quarterback Joseph Brunell completed a 46-yard bomb in the second quarter, then guided the Hoyas to a touchdown two plays later. The Red Foxes turned the ball over four times, leading to two scores by the Hoyas.

Georgetown plays its next game, also at home, against Catholic University, this Saturday, Sept. 14.
