The Nationals Help the Smithsonian Celebrate 175 years
The Smithsonian Institution celebrates its 175th year this weekend and the Nats are pitching in for the commemorations. Starting Friday — to help kick off the ninth homestand of the season — the Nats will feature one of the Smithsonian’s museums each day during pregame and in-game breaks. Nats fans can win prizes and hear fun facts about our city’s museums. Friday features the National Museum of African American History and Culture, Saturday will honor the National Postal Museum and the National Zoo gets feted Sunday. It’s Restaurant Week!
Catch the tail end of Restaurant Week, which runs through Sunday. This year, if you don’t feel comfortable eating at a restaurant, many places are offering “RW to Go,” with specially priced dinners for two or four people. Most lunches or brunches run $22 and dinners range from $35 – $55. Some participating restaurants in Georgetown include Brasserie Liberté, Café Milano and Filomena. For more information on Restaurant Week, click here.
Catch the National Building Museum’s ‘Inside Out 2021 Summer Block Party’
From now through Labor Day weekend, the National Building Museum is featuring smaller projects and public programs on the museum’s West Lawn and inside as well. Previous iterations included huge installations in the Great Hall, but in the ongoing pandemic era, the museum opted for a smaller, more spread-out affair. There’s a wooden maze filled with books, interactive lawn art and lots more fun. For more on the National Building Museum, click here.
Check Out the Silver Spring Barbecue and Jerk Festival
The very first barbecue and jerk showcase – organized by the Jamaica Education for the Poor Foundation — will be at Veterans Plaza in Silver Spring, Sunday from 1 – 9 p.m. There are plans for a fashion show, live music, and jazz and blues by Walter. A wine tasting featuring Reggae Wines and a Taste of Jamaica food booth with special deals ($15 will get you two servings of jerk chicken and pork with rice, peas and salad) are also in the works. For more on the festival, click here.
‘90s Kids, Unite!
Spend Saturday afternoon at some of Dupont Circle’s best bars, celebrating all things ‘90s. From 2 – 10 p.m., enjoy hella good drink specials and a retro mug party favor, raffles and more. Come dressed as your favorite ‘90s icon — the Spice Girls, Cher from Clueless, Will Smith in the “Gettin’ Jiggy Wit It” music video, the possibilities are like totally endless. More on the event can be found by clicking here.
Enjoy the Air and Space Virtual Family Day
