Volta Park Launches Farmers Market Sept. 10

Volta Park will be launching its first weekly farmers market on Friday, Sept. 10, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. The Volta Park Farmers Market will be held on the park’s basketball courts on the 1500 block of 34th Street NW. Entrance is on Q Street between 33rd and 34th Streets.

The market will run every Friday until Dec. 17, excluding the Friday after Thanksgiving on Nov. 26. Market booths will offer a variety of local foods and will include bakeries, pastries, and coffee.

“Our goal is to provide the Georgetown community with a variety of fresh produce and prepared foods from local farmers and purveyors,” said the Friends of Volta Park, a volunteer community organization, which will be operating the weekly markets.

Volta Park market committee member Christi Cline said that her committee is reaching out to local vendors and restaurants to showcase their food at one of the market’s booths. She added that the booths may offer options in November and December geared toward the Holiday season.

Several community favorites such as Metropolitan Bakery, Ana’s Twist, and Qualia Coffee, to name just a few, will be represented at the market. The market committee is made up of four members, including Cline, Darcy Nauman (President), Anna Delligatti and Saraya Arnold.
