Georgetown Main Street Revives Take-Out Tuesday

Georgetowners—one of your favorite food-related promos is back! Beginning this Tuesday, January 25, #TakeoutTuesday can be savored once again.

The winter months are typically rough for restaurants without a global pandemic, so one can imagine how long these cold weeks are for our local food establishments.

This week, Chaia and Peacock Café are participating. Chaia, at 3207 Grace St. NW, is offering a free seasonal shrub drink for those who use the promo code “TOT” for online orders only. Chaia began as a farmer’s market specialty and is now in three storefront locations in the District and Maryland.

“We chose Georgetown as the location for our first restaurant because we felt the neighborhood was lacking a local, healthy, homegrown, affordable food concept,” said co-owner Bettina Stern. “We found the perfect location—Georgetown attracts university students, businesspeople, neighborhood residents and tourists alike.”

Peacock Café is celebrating three decades in Georgetown. The restaurant at 3251 Prospect St. NW is owned and operated by brothers Shahab and Maziar Farivar. This Tuesday, the eatery is offering 20 percent off bottles of wine prices (excluding champagne) for Take Out Tuesday customers. Online delivery is available through services like UberEats and DoorDash.

Also, each week of the #TakeoutTuesday promotion, a raffle will be held for two winners to receive a $50 gift card (sponsored by Nancy Taylor Bubes of Washington Fine Properties). More information on how to sign up for the raffle can be found here.

“Georgetown Main Street is excited to revive the #TakeoutTuesday campaign for Winter 2022,” said Rachel Shank, executive director of Georgetown Main Street. “Independent restaurants are in trouble—according to the Independent Restaurant Coalition, 58 percent of businesses reported that their sales decreased by more than half in December 2021, those numbers are unsustainable.”

Shank also added that the purpose of this neighborhood-driven campaign is to first create a groundswell of support for restaurants. “Second, [we hope] to encourage our neighbors to create a routine around eating at our local eateries, and hopefully try something new!”

Shank is happy she doesn’t have to worry about what’s for dinner on Tuesdays!

ANC Commissioner Elizabeth Miller came up with the idea for #TakeoutTuesday and is thrilled to have it back for 2022.

“The winter months are already a struggle for many dining establishments, but heap on a second year of Covid restrictions and our neighborhood restaurants really need our love and support,” she said. “I live in Georgetown because it’s a village that loves and takes care of each other—it’s time to step up and support neighbors who need us!”

#TakeoutTuesday will be offered for the next 10 weeks. Bon appétit!

  • An outstanding share! I have just forwarded this onto a coworker who has been conducting a little research on this. And he in fact bought me dinner due to the fact that I discovered it for him… lol. So allow me to reword this…. Thanks for the meal!! But yeah, thanks for spending some time to talk about this matter here on your site.
