April 21 Cultural Leadership Breakfast Speaker: Timothy Nelson

On Thursday, April 21, from 8 to 9:30 a.m., The Georgetowner’s Cultural Leadership Breakfast Series will welcome Timothy Nelson, artistic director of In Series, to talk about the innovative D.C.-based opera theater company. Admission to the event, at the Tabard Inn, 1739 N St. NW, is $30, payable in advance via Eventbrite.

Theater director and designer Timothy Nelson joined In Series, founded 40 years ago by Chilean-born pianist Carla Hübner, in 2018. A graduate of Johns Hopkins University’s Peabody Conservatory, Nelson launched American Opera Theater in Baltimore in 2002, running it for a decade and going on to conceive and direct boldly inventive opera productions in England, Italy and the Netherlands.

At the breakfast, he will talk about the pandemic’s impact on In Series’ recent seasons and describe the upcoming show “Othello/Desdemona,” a two-part reimagining of Shakespeare and Verdi incorporating visual art and live music, including the music of Nina Simone.

The Georgetowner’s monthly Cultural Leadership Breakfast Series has presented insider talks by 40 leaders of D.C.-area museums, theater and dance companies, performing arts venues and other arts organizations since 2014.
