Winning Recipe: Pizza & Brewery Collaborations
Crooked Run and Pizza Serata, opens at 550 Morse St., NE in the Union Market District. Lee Rogan and Jake Endres, owners of Loudoun-based brewery, Crooked Run Fermentation, joined chef Chris Morgan (Yasmine, Bammy’s Little Chicken) to open a “brew-staurant” serving spontaneously fermented beers, sours, ciders, natural wines, fruity seltzers, pizzas, and Italian sandwiches. They will feature their first beer brewed in D.C., called Alora, an Italian pilsner. Chris’s ace-up-his-sleeve: teaming up with pizzaiolo and global pizza consultant, Anthony Falco.
Atlas Brew Works plans to open in Alexandria at Carlyle Crossing, 2501 Mandeville Lane. International Pizza Challenge 2021 winner, Andy’s Pizza, will once again join them at this new location — as they do at their Navy Yard store.
Adams Morgan Update: Alfresco Tap & Grill, brought to you by the folks from Lauriol Plaza, will open in Q2, in a newly built building, at 2009 18th St, NW…. Oh Mama Grill opened their second kosher restaurant in the DMV (Rockville is the first) at 1829 Columbia Rd. NW where Astor Mediterranean used to be. Hell’s Kitchen joins Gordon Ramsay Fish & Chips at the Wharf, the second of Gordon Ramsay’s concepts to open in D.C. Their third concept to open in the city is Gordon Ramsay Street Pizza, slated to open later this year in Penn Quarter.
Chef Update: Kevin Lalli was named Executive Chef for Sofitel Washington DC Lafayette Square. Previously, he was the executive chef for Prime 25 in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Tatte Bakery & Cafe will open in Reston in the Two Fountain Square building at Reston Town Center where Chico’s clothing store used to be. It will be its third in Northern Virginia.
Ch-CH-Changes: Smoke & Mirrors at the AC Hotel near Navy Yard on Capitol Hill has launched weekday lunch service, with a menu created by Chef Angela Rose. Tuesday through Friday.
Quick Hits: Bullfrog Bagels is slated to open at Western Market at the end of Q1 2023. Their catering operation will also operate out of this new location… Donisima Donuts will continue its Western Market pop-up through the end of Q1 2023…. New York-based Dos Toros Taqueria will open at 1350 Connecticut Ave., NW in the former Philz Coffee space. It will be the third Dos Toros location in the DMV, following Chinatown and the Capitol Hill area…. South Korea-based Paris Baguette is slated to open at the end of Q1 2023 at 9765 Liberia Ave. in Manassas, its fourth Northern Virginia location. Paris Baguette also plans to open in Rockville Town Square.
Des Moines-based 801 Restaurant Group, which operates 801 Chophouse, is aiming to open in the former McCormick & Schmick’s at 8484 Westpark Drive in Tysons in Q4 2023.
