This long Memorial Day weekend, there are lots of things to do, including the last Washington National Opera show of the season, Jazz in the Garden starting up again at the National Gallery of Art and of course taking time to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice at the National Memorial Day Parade.
The Joyful ‘Kimberly Akimbo’ is at The National Theatre

Now through June 1, don’t miss the Tony Award-winning show (including the “Best Musical” award) Kimberly Akimbo at the National Theatre. The show is about Kimberly, who is about to celebrate her 16th birthday, and her move with her family to suburban New Jersey. More on how to get tickets can be found here.
The Phillips Collection’s ‘Living Room’ Series Continues

The Phillips Collection continues their “The Living Room” series Friday afternoon with a chat with Tie Jojima, the Phillips’ Global Contemporary Art Curator. Jojima will explore the significance of Latin American and Latinx artists in shaping contemporary art discussions. More information on the event can be found here.
WNO Closes the 2024-2025 Season with ‘Porgy and Bess’

The Washington National Opera is presenting their last show of the season starting Friday and running through May 31. Artistic Director Francesca Zambello’s production of the Gershwin classic “Porgy and Bess” will be presented with a new generation of singers ready to continue the legacy of the American opera. IlluminAsia: Arts and Culture Festival is On Now

Throughout the month of May, the National Museum of Asian Art is hosting an IlluminAsia Festival to commemorate Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander Heritage Month. There will be “Arts Across Asia” tours that will feature art from the exhibits currently on view, with works from Japan to Iran and everything in between. More information can be found here.
Putt Across America Begins

An immersive mini golf experience opens this weekend at The Wharf. “Putt Across America” hopes to celebrate landscapes across the country and the 18-hole course at The Wharf features a pre-celebration of the country’s 250th birthday. There will be state-themed trivia, larger-than-life holes and more. Putt Across America will run through September 1. More information can be found here.
Jazz in the Garden at the NGA
Everyone’s favorite summer concert series, “Jazz in the Garden,” starts Friday at the National Gallery of Art’s Sculpture Garden. The first concert of the summer will feature the Lao Tizer Band. To give everyone an equal chance to attend concerts, registration will be through a lottery. Registration opens at 10 a.m. on the Monday before the concert and closes at noon the Friday of the show. The Lao Tizer Band performance is 6-8:30 p.m. More information can be found here.
Falsettos at Keegan Theatre

The Keegan Theatre celebrates World Pride with “Falsettos,” the Tony Award winning musical that is on now through June 15. The show tells the tale of Marvin, who leaves his wife and son to be with his lover. Tempers flare, and the audience is brought through an adventure about family, relationships, AIDS, baseball and bar mitzvahs. More information on tickets can be found here.
Monday is The National Memorial Day Parade

The National Memorial Day Parade will be live from Constitution Ave. at 2 p.m. Pre-parade musical performances start at 1 p.m. The parade, which features personal stories of the men and women who lost their lives in service to our country, will be presented by Boeing.
