Weekend Roundup: Pride, Global Rhythms & Gospel Choirs


World Pride continues this weekend with some of the biggest events of the festival. The Nats host a night OUT, Pride heads to the Wharf, Pride Plays will be performed at Woolly Mammoth and of course the Pride Parade is Saturday. Have fun and enjoy your weekend!

The Nationals Host a Night OUT and Natasha Bedingfield

This evening at 6:45 p.m., the Washington Nationals are hosting the Chicago Cubs. Join the LGBTQ+ community and support the Nats at the game. Tickets include a Nationals giveaway item and a donation to Team DC, a non-profit established to educate the LGBTQ community on the benefits of participating in sports. On Friday after the game versus the Texas Rangers, singer Natasha Bedingfield comes to Nats Park as the next installment of the Nats summer concert series. After that concert, the rest of your weekend is still “unwritten…” More info on the concert can be found here.

Check Out the World Pride Parade on Saturday

The Capital Pride Parade becomes the WorldPride Parade this year, honoring the deep history and evolution of LGBTQ+ neighborhoods in D.C. The parade steps off at 2 p.m. at 14th and T Streets NW. Pride Heads to the Wharf Too
Don’t miss “Pride on the Pier” this weekend at The Wharf. The fun begins Friday from 3-10 p.m. with a boat parade and Saturday’s festivities start at noon and end at 10 p.m. with a fireworks show starting at 9 p.m. The event is free and open to the public, and will include a DJ, dancing and other entertainment. Pride Plays Come to Woolly Mammoth

Pride Plays come to Wolly Mammoth now through Friday, celebrating the LGBTQIA+ experiences through live theatre. Check out plays like “Mother Mary,” by KJ Moran Velz, about taxi driver Jo Cruz who meets Mary O’Sullivan, a Catholic schoolteacher who connect on their daily rides to work. Glen Echo Park Partnership Celebrates ‘Global Rhythms’

The Lac Long Quon Lion Dance Team, who will be at Glen Echo Park for the Global Rhythms Festival this weekend.


Sunday from 12-4 p.m., check out “Global Rhythms: Music, Dance & Storytelling from Around the World,” which will celebrate traditions from a variety of cultures including Latin America, Africa and Asia. The event will be at Glen Echo Park and food from Praline Café, Saté food truck and Ben & Jerry’s ice cream will be available for purchase. More information can be found here.

Jewelers Werk Galerie Opens a New Show Saturday

Jewelers Werk Galerie is opening a new show Saturday from 12-4 p.m. The show will be an exhibit of new and recent work from artist jewelers Sarah Pulvertaft and Sian Evans. Washington Performing Arts Gospel Choirs Come Together for Final Performance of Season

Men and Women of the Gospel Choir, Children of the Gospel Choir and the Children of the Gospel Alumni Choir are all uniting Saturday evening at George Washington University’s Lisner Auditorium for the final show of the season. The choirs will be joined by Grammy Award winning gospel singer Karen Clark Sheard. The concert with Sheard brings the choirs and performer together for the first time in over 10 years.
