JFK’s Former Georgetown Home Hits Market

The Georgetown townhome that former President John F. Kennedy and his wife Jackie called home from 1957 through JFK’s inauguration on January 20, 1961 is listed by Michael Rankin of Sotheby’s International Realty.

The 5,215-square-foot home at 3307 N St. NW, called the William Marbury House, was built in 1811 for Marbury, a federalist appointed by John Adams. Marbury was one of the Midnight Judges (you can find more about them here). Most may remember Marbury as the namesake behind the Supreme Court case “Marbury v. Madison.”

Back to the home—it’s got five full bathrooms, one half bath and five bedrooms. Jackie Kennedy, who was known for her impeccable taste, redecorated the home a few times while the family lived there (both Caroline and John, Jr. were born while the family was living at 3307 N). Jackie Kennedy hosted multiple teas and other events there to help advance her husband’s political career, according to Sotheby’s.

The townhouse also served as an informal campaign office leading up to the 1960 election. JFK even hosted press conferences from the front steps.

Aesthetically, the façade of the home is classic, and much like the Kennedys, timeless. There is a centered entry crowned by a delicate fanlight and refined cornice. The design favors proportion, light and restraint, which Sotheby’s says are all hallmarks of the Federal style. The interior floor plan includes plenty of large-scale spaces perfect for entertaining, just like Jackie. The dining room is elegant and provides access to lush gardens. Upstairs, in addition to the bedrooms, there is a library and access to a walk-up attic. Outside, there is a one-car garage and two surface parking spaces.

Since the Kennedys left the home 64 years ago, there have been multiple owners.

This stylish and historic home is currently on the market for $7.5 million. You can view the listing here and see a gallery of some photos of the home below.
