The No Kings rally on Oct. 8 drew 200,000 marchers and demonstrators to downtown Washington, D.C. and the National Mall, according to news reports. Those at the rally were protesting policies of the Trump administration as well as the president himself — seen as a threat to democracy and the rule of law.
Republican legislators criticized the No Kings as “anti-American.” The day before the event, President Trump told reporters, “I am not a king.”
Still, you knew the rally — filled with signs, funny and vulgar, along with different species of inflatable animals or fictional creatures — was off an interesting start when you saw some guy walking down Wisconsin Avenue dressed in a golden suit, with a blond wig and orange make-up … a faux king POTUS.
The midday protest was peaceful. Other No Kings rallies were held across the country at the same time — with about 7 million protestors estimated nationwide, one of the largest single-day demonstrations in America history.
“On Saturday, I witnessed the antithesis of Speaker of the House Mike Johnson’s ‘hate America rallies’ rhetoric,” Georgetown resident Margaret Dunning told The Georgetowner.
“In Washington, D.C., thousands of concerned citizens of all ages, colors and creeds came together to peacefully protest against threats to our nation’s democratic ideals. It was inspiring. And Speaker Johnson, the ‘Aunt Tifas’ I met love America.”
