Honoring Our Past, Shaping Our Future: Editorial Transitions at The Georgetowner

To our loyal readers, advertisers, stakeholders, friends and family:
The Georgetowner is pleased to announce changes to staff roles, starting in 2026.
After decades of service to the newspaper, Robert Devaney will become editor-at-large. We are honored to have had his expertise, impeccable editing skills, writing skills and sense of humor as editor-in-chief. We are looking forward to seeing more stories directly related to his interests, with his signature funny quips and storytelling in the coming year.
Peggy Sands will become senior correspondent emeritus, focusing on stories that directly align with her expertise and interests. As an octogenarian, her talent and experience will still be a huge part of the newspaper.
Publisher Sonya Bernhardt will also take on the role of editor-in-chief, and current director of content and advertising Kate Oczypok will transition to managing editor.
We want to thank our team for their journalistic talent and time spent working thousands of hours at the paper. We are grateful for everyone who has been a key part of The Georgetowner.
If you have any questions regarding this matter, please direct them to Sonya or Kate at sonya@georgetowner.com and kate@georgetowner.com.
