Campaign Update: Hope Solomon Running for Mayor

Hope Solomon — well known in Georgetown, because of her father’s business as well as her father, Ed Solomon, who was an advisory neighborhood commissioner for years — announced last week her candidacy for mayor of Washington, D.C.
A laid off — or DOGE’d — federal worker, Solomon worked as a contractor at the Department of Homeland Security until mid-July, and previously at DOD and the FBI, according to Axios. She grew up in Burleith and lives in the Dupont Circle neighborhood.
She was also a president of the Georgetown Business Association, which is no longer active in the community. After more than 40 years, the organization ceased to exist under her leadership.
The 42-year-old Solomon, whose campaign slogan is “Hope for DC,” with the add-ons, “Est. 1983. Made in DC,” says her top concern is affordability. The even more well known William A. Martin, Jr., owner of Martin’s Tavern, is her campaign treasurer.
She introduces herself on her campaign website, writing, “You know what it’s like to love this city and still wonder how long you can afford to stay — ‘affordable’ feels like a moving target.”
Solomon joins others, including top contenders Kenyan McDuffie and Janeese Lewis George, seeking the Democratic nomination for D.C. mayor in the primary election, which will be held June 16.
