Business Ins & Outs: RM Balance, Dayglow; Crumbs & Whiskers, Allbirds

In: RM Balance Opens Today

RM Balance, a new restorative wellness studio, is set to open its doors at 3210 Grace St. NW. Founded by Regina McLinden, owner of RM Wellness at Hamilton Court on 31st Street — the only person under 30 to operate two brick-and-mortar businesses in Georgetown — this meditation and movement studio combines traditional yoga methods with “the background of bodywork,” as well as Pilates, sound baths and meditation. The studio is open 6:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily.

In: Sourced by Scottie

What’s not so old is new again. Sourced by Scottie, at 3144 Dumbarton St. NW, is a curated vintage clothing store that specializes in European designer fashion from the 1990s to the 2000s, we’re told.

Out (Temporarily): Crumbs & Whiskers

Georgetown’s and D.C.’s first cat cafe, Crumbs & Whiskers will close “until further notice,” effective immediately, the company told employees, according to the Washingtonian. The feline fun place at 3109 M St. NW has set up appointments for those wishing to adopt cats or just play with them. The matches yielded  3,000 cat adoptions over the years.

The closure reportedly involves a management-labor dispute concerning unionization by employees of Crumbs & Whiskers, which first opened on O Street in 2015.

Owner Kanchan Singh told Washingtonian that the location had to close temporarily while it searched for the right leadership team so store managers can “continue providing a safe, supportive and positive environment for our staff, our cats and visitors.”

Out: Allbirds

Allbirds will close all of its full-price stores in the U.S. — including its Georgetown store at 3135 M St. NW — by the end of February, the footwear retailer announced last month in a press release. Allbirds had 21 stores nationwide. It continues online and with two discount stores.

Coming: Dayglow

Dayglow, a Los Angeles coffee chain that features a selection of coffee roasters and nonalcoholic coffee cocktails, has selected Georgetown for its first D.C.-area location, according to the Washington Business Journal. The spot was formerly home to Alkova Yoga & Coworking and had been reported as a future site for a Hästens mattress store.

WBJ added: “The company, founded in 2018 by cousins Philippe and Tohm Ifergan, has inked a deal for about 2,000 square feet at 1510 Wisconsin Ave. NW, with plans to open this summer. It will be the seventh location for Dayglow, which has four outposts in California and one each in Chicago and Brooklyn.”

Coming: Joe & The Juice

Joe & The Juice, a Danish chain of coffee shops and juice bars, plans to open a Georgetown store at 1420 Wisconsin Ave. NW, according to Michael Brennan of Compass. The restaurant has 382 locations around the world and is known for its popular tunacado sandwich — as well as smoothies and veggie shots. Joe & The Juice was founded in 2002 by Kaspar Basse.

Coming: Love Couture Bridal

Love Couture Bridal, a bridal shop in Potomac, Maryland, will open a second spot at 1523 Wisconsin Ave. NW. Previous businesses at that location also celebrated weddings: Modern Trousseau and Hitched.

Coming: Dutch Darlings
