U.S.-Israeli strikes against Iran which produced the death of its supreme leader and other officials aroused protests and celebrations in the streets of Washington D.C. and elsewhere on Saturday.
In front of the White House, protesters denounced the war as illegal with the fear that it would spread throughout the Middle East.
In Georgetown, a large rally of Iranian Americans and their supporters which favors a new democratic Iran and denounces the brutality of the 47-year-old Islamic republic made its way from Washington Harbour up Wisconsin Ave. then east on M Street in Georgetown on Saturday evening.
Opinions on “Operation Epic Fury” split mostly along party lines —with supporters happy to see Ayatollah Ali Khamenei dead and the Iranian government disabled and opponents seeing another “endless war” in the Middle East and calling President Trump’s actions illegal without Congressional approval.
By-standers in Georgetown on Saturday observed a joyous crowd waving American, Israeli and pre-revolutionary Iranian flags.
