Puck Celebrates the 1st Amendment at the French Residence

Journalists, media influencers and other newsy and op-ed types gathered March 4 at the Residence of the French Ambassador on Kalorama Road to celebrate the First Amendment.

One of the season’s first fun parties, the First Amendment Gala 2026 was put on by Puck, the sassy digital news upstart, founded in 2021, that covers “the fourth centers of power” in Washington, D.C., Wall Street, Hollywood and Silicon Valley — as well as culture, fashion and A.I.

The gala’s honoree was Andrew Sorkin, author of “1929: The Inside Story of the Greatest Crash in Wall Street History” and “Too Big to Fail.” For the admiring crowd, Sorkin gave the pithiest assessment of the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, arguing that freedom of the press “is the load-bearing wall” for all the other freedoms.

The schmoozing guests enjoyed cocktails and light fare along with Puck Power Portraits, a Founding Fathers Photo Op and a political cartoonist.
