Prominent Georgetowners gathered March 11 at the historic City Tavern to raise money for Democratic candidate Brooke Pinto who is running for D.C. delegate to Congress.
Council member Pinto represents Ward 2, which includes Georgetown, on the D.C. Council.
Held in the Bliss Room, the occasion was tagged as a Pink Party for Brooke because of Pinto’s signature colors. With some ladies dressed in pink and a few guys with pink ties, the scene was complete.
The 33-year-old Pinto thanked the crowd and said she was “ready to pick up the torch” from legendary Eleanor Holmes Norton, who is retiring after more than 35 years in the House of Representatives.
The candidate said, “We can do big wins.” She deplores any attempt at the “Palm Beachifigation” of D.C. and stands for self-governance of the city.
With her top priorities being safety as well as checking federal interference in D.C., Pinto wants ICE agents reined in. She also supports the well-thought-out transfer of GSA properties for the benefit of Washingtonians.
Pinto is running neck-and-neck (slightly ahead in one poll) with Council member Robert White, whom she accused of inaccuracies about herself and her family.
D.C.’s Democratic primary election is on June 16. With other positions in contention, such as Mayor of Washington, D.C., the election is considered one of the most consequential in a generation.
The Pink Party fundraiser was hosted by Kristin and John Cecchi, Elizabeth Miller and Dan Sallick, Lisa and Adam Palmer and Brooke Stroud and Stefan Carnet. Co-hosts were Meghan and Bo Blair, Nancy Taylor Bubes, Mac and Ande Grennan, Sarah Leonard and Bill Dean, Puja Parekh and Ashok Gowda, Carol and David Pensky, Allison and Chris Putala and Cat and William Snyderwine.
Donations topped out at the platinum level of $3,500.
When asked about the March 11 fundraiser, Drew Godinich, campaign manger for Pinto for Congress, told The Georgetowner: “The campaign won’t be sharing the total raised, but we are overwhelmed by the generosity of everyone who attended and the hundreds of grassroots donors from every Ward who have powered this campaign.”
