Business Ins & Outs: PopUp Bagels, Luv Rose Boutique, Pop Mart, Meta, Compass


In: PopUp Bagels to Open Friday

Connecticut-based bagel and schmear shop, PopUp Bagels plans to open on March 27 at 1078 Wisconsin Ave. NW, formerly the space for Mason’s Famous Lobster Rolls and, before that, Paul Bakery. The winner of Brooklyn Bagelfest “Best Bagel” two years in a row, PopUp Bagels also features specially favored cream cheeses with its “no frills, perfect” creations.

In: Luv, Rose Boutique in April

A coastal-style clothing boutique from Newport, Rhode Island, is set to open next month at 1432 Wisconsin Ave NW in a former hemp shop. The business owners were happy to pull off the previous occupant’s logo from the window and wrote on social media: “We couldn’t be more excited to announce that we are expanding!  Luv, Rose is coming to Georgetown this April! This has been a hard secret to keep with you all! We love you already, Georgetown!”

Coming: Pop Mart

Pop Mart, a Beijing-based toy company, is heading to 3221 M St. NW, the former spot of Barbour which is moving around the corner to Wisconsin Avenue. Think Hello Kitty and beyond — toys like Labubu, Harry Potter and the Powerpuff Girls and other pricey designer toys.

Coming: Meta Store in Georgetown?

Facebook’s parent company is scouting sites in Washington, D.C., for a new retail store, similar to one Meta is planning to next to the St. Regis Hotel in Manhattan, according to the Washington Business Journal.

Meta Platforms Inc. “has homed in on Georgetown, where it’s seeking between 3,000 square feet and 5,000 square feet, according to one source familiar with the search. Meta has retained a team from CBRE Group, Inc., per three sources familiar with the situation who spoke on condition of anonymity,” the Journal reported.

Georgetown already has an Apple store and a Google store.

Moved: Compass to Foundry Building

The Georgetown offices of Compass Real Estate company has departed Hamilton Court on 31st Street and moved to the Foundry Building on Thomas Jefferson Street in front of the C&O Canal.

Michael Brennan of Compass wrote on social media: “We moved!… just one block, but a whole new vibe. After years on 31st Street NW right across from the Georgetown Post Office, you can now find the Compass office along the C&O Canal — directly across from one of our favorites, Baked & Wired. 

“Come visit us at our new home in The Foundry Building, 1055 Thomas Jefferson Street NW. Walk on by and give us a wave.”
