Must-See This Spring: ‘The Cherry Orchard’

By LaMarr Funn

Duke Ellington School of the Arts Theater Department’s rising star students will present a compelling reimagining of Anton Chekhov’s classic, The Cherry Orchard from April 8 through April 11.

Set in 1903 New Orleans, this production reimagines the work as a powerful reflection on legacy, change and possibility, inviting audiences into an unforgettable spring evening of culture and artistic excellence.

The set for this production is extraordinary and truly a must-see. It is an experience that invites reflection, connection and celebration with the students bringing emotional depth and contemporary relevance to Chekhov’s work. Themes of resilience, identity, and possibility are illuminated through a lens that feels both personal and universal.
