Mayor Muriel Bowser and the Office of Cable Television, Film, Music, and Entertainment (OCTFME) are celebrating the 10th anniversary of 202Creates Month at the second annual 202Creates Con, held — appropriately enough — today, Sept. 28, at the new National Geographic Museum of Exploration.
Launched in 2016, “202Creates Month has become the District’s signature celebration of creativity, entrepreneurship, design, performance and innovation,” the mayor is pleased to point out.
Over the past decade, “it has supported thousands of creators, makers, musicians, filmmakers and creative entrepreneurs across Washington, D.C. — helping grow D.C.’s creative economy from $3 billion to $15 billion, strengthening small businesses, jobs and cultural vibrancy throughout the city,” OCTFME Director LaToya Foster told morning attendees to the event’s launch.
This year’s 202Creates Con brings together leaders in film, music, media, digital storytelling, arts and entertainment for a one-day immersive experience that will feature panel discussions, fireside conversations, performances, interactive activations and networking opportunities with national industry leaders and local creative organizations.
The National Geographic Museum of Exploration was humming with featured guests, such as Deputy Mayor Nina Albert, La Toya Foster, Darien Wright of Nat Geo, Kelly Flanagan of Live Nation, Jim Kowats of Monumental Sports and Entertainment, Sunny Sumner of DC JazzFest, Shawn Townsend of Restaurant Association of Metropolitan Washington, Vinoda Basnayake of Versus Equity, Danita Johnson of DC United and Ian Callender of Sandlot DC.
The lineup, activities and music and arts continued all day, with free admission to the museum for anyone who showed up.
