Coming in 2016: Lilly Pulitzer, Bread Papa’s, Baco Taco, Glover Park Hardware, Glover Park Hotel
July 24, 2016
•— Get ready for Lilly Pulitzer, the “Queen of Prep” clothier, to arrive near the corner of Wisconsin Avenue and M Street. Georgetown’s Advisory Neighborhood Commission had an agenda item — the address is 1079 1/2 Wisconsin Ave. It appears to be above the Jack Wills store is at 1079 Wisconsin Ave. NW. “Life’s a party, dress like it,” according to Lilly Pulitzer.
— At 1332 Wisconsin Ave. NW, Bread Papa’s will be adding to Georgetown’s sweet tooth amid cupcakes, pies, macarons and ice cream. It is an international chain of cream puff stores, begun in Osaka, Japan, in 1999. Beard Papa’s has more 250 stores in Japan and 300 worldwide. Think of the popular sweets cafe of cream puffs and eclairs as the Japanese version of Krispy Kreme.
— One block north, look for French bakery Boulangerie Christophe to set up at 1422 Wisconsin Avenue NW. It is still under construction and hopes to open in 2016.
— We jumped the gun, so to speak, in the Nov. 18 Georgetowner and reported that — Baco Juice & Taco Bar has opened at 1614 Wisconsin Ave. NW. It has not yet opened. Owner Christopher Luceri promises healthful juices and smoothies as well as tacos, burritos and breakfast foods with a Mexican twist. He also wants to use the front of the property for a patio and outdoor seating, as the entrance is set back from the street. Baco’s other business location is in Pennsylvania. Look for it next year.
— Paisano’s Pizza—mostly a delivery and take-out operation—plans to open in 2016 at 1855 Wisconsin Avenue NW, next to Safeway, in the former barber shop, Rooster’s.
— Striped of its signage, the Holiday Inn at 2101 Wisconsin Ave. NW is closed, empty and ready for reconstruction next year, alongside the Donohoe Construction offices next door. New condos and offices are expected.
— Meanwhile, Savoy Suites Hotel on Wisconsin Avenue near Calvert Street (2505 Wisconsin Ave. NW) is being renovated and will become the Glover Park Hotel in the spring under the operation of Kimpton Hotels.
