Building the Stories: Creating Narratives and Videos from Your Research

Ever spent countless hours researching your family history only to watch younger generations’ eyes glaze over when sharing your discoveries? In this presentation, learn how to transform your genealogical research into compelling narratives and engaging videos that resonate across generations. Discover practical techniques for adding the crucial “why” behind events and choices. Learn how to integrate the contextual information that creates emotional hooks and bridges generational gaps, ensuring your family’s legacy lives on through stories that future generations will actually want to hear and share. Additionally, you’ll get introduced to a few timely tools to help you leverage tech in your narrative creation.

This one-hour program, conducted over Zoom at 1:30 PM Eastern Time, is free for members. This is one of the many activities that is a benefit of JGSGW membership. Speaker: Gael Gilliland founded The Legacy Recorder (2015) to share her passion for storytelling and writing about hard things like death and dying. Today, her storytelling methods and unique project approach are used globally. She is a millennial mother of three teenage humans, owner of ConnectWork On Main, and consultant to CEOs looking to improve their processes and impact, both online and offline. She is an enthusiastic supporter of local music, local coffee shops, and new writers looking to make their way.

As a speaker, Gael has presented on a myriad of topics, including but not limited to storytelling, automations, project management, how to talk to your kids, branding, and death. She has presented for Penn State, GCUC, ANR, SRU, PRPS, NAPO, SMWL, GSUSA, and more.
