DC BIKE RIDE ANNOUNCES RETURN OF FALL EVENT
DC’s Biggest Celebration of Cycling Returns To The Roads This September
WASHINGTON, D.C. – July 7, 2022 – The DC Bike Ride, presented by CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield and Events DC, is pleased to announce its return to the streets of Washington D.C. this fall. The region’s only car-free event and biggest celebration of bicycling returns the morning of Saturday, Sept. 10, 2022, with a start line in scenic West Potomac Park.
Riders will tour the city’s famous sights on 20 miles of car-free roads for the seventh annual year. Many of the time-honored favorites along the route return, including selfie stops, live music, rest areas and some new additions too. One of the most anticipated course features to be unveiled this year is Wildgood’s Ice Cream Stop. And the action-packed Finish Festival, presented by Sibley Memorial Hospital, will culminate the event in front of the U.S. Capitol Building on 3rd Street with food trucks, fitness classes from #FITDC and a DJ spinning tracks all morning long. Prior to the September 10 event, there will be a Packet Pickup Party taking place September 8-9 in collaboration with #FITDC as well. The Party includes yoga sessions, dance classes and a beer garden. The Packet Pickup Party and Finish Festival are both free and open to the general public to attend. “Having the DC Bike Ride as a fall event last year was well received by the Riders and our community,” said Chris Browne, Managing Director of DC Bike Ride. “Along with CareFirst and Events DC, we’re thrilled that we already have 5,000 Riders pre-registered for the event and can’t wait to welcome all to enjoy our city and all we have in store for this special event. And we have some exciting additions we can’t wait to reveal involving the route.”

Since the genesis of DC Bike Ride, there has always been a philanthropic component supporting the mission of the Ride, where a portion of proceeds benefits nonprofit organizations and community programs. To date, the event has donated over $170,000 to organizations including the Washington Area Bicyclist Association, Fruitful Planet, Dreaming Out Loud, and the Wounded Warrior Project. As part of its giving back initiatives, DC Bike Ride has also launched the Pedal For A Purpose in partnership with CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield – a program which to date has raised $50,000 to support food relief and community building in the area.
