•An emotional candlelight vigil was held outside the White House June 12 to honor the 49 people killed earlier that morning at a gay nightclub, Pulse, in Orlando, Florida. The Gay Men’s Chorus of Washington, D.C., sang “We Shall Overcome” and “The Star-Spangled Banner,” loud enough, perhaps, to be heard from within the White House, where the flag flew at half-staff. Many held signs condemning gun violence and calling for better gun legislation, while others held signs reading “Love Conquers Hate.”
