Events Precede Official Start of FotoWeekDC

•FotoWeekDC 2016 officially runs Saturday, Nov. 12, through Sunday, Nov. 20, but several events will take place prior to the opening night party, this Friday, Nov. 11, at National Geographic headquarters, 1600 M St. NW.
Tonight, Monday, Nov. 7, there will be an opening reception for “States of Consciousness by Gaby Herbstein” at the IDB Staff Association Art Gallery, 1300 New York Ave. NW. In her photographic images, Herbstein is said to invoke the great Surrealist artists.
This Wednesday, Nov. 9, the Smithsonian American Art Museum, 8th and F Streets NW, will host a discussion with photographer Albert Watson, whose subjects have included Alfred Hitchcock, Kate Moss, Las Vegas landscapes and King Tut artifacts.
The opening reception for “A Myriad of Voices” will take place the following day, Thursday, Nov. 10, at the Former Residence of the Ambassadors of Spain, 2801 16th St. NW. The exhibition offers a selection of works that won Revelation PhotoEspaña Awards.
More than 40,000 people attend FotoWeekDC, founded in 2008. The festival is organized annually by FotoDC, a nonprofit offering year-round programming that provides greater exposure for photographers, new venues for exhibitions and educational opportunities for young people.
