•Getting timelier every day, “The Second City’s Almost Accurate Guide to America: Divided We Stand” will end its Kennedy Center run this weekend. This Saturday — and the next two Saturdays — how does waterfront yoga followed by brunch in Georgetown sound? Finally, though the Washington Jewish Film Festival takes place in May, a seven-film summer series runs through Aug. 19.
Last Performances: ‘The Second City’s Divided We Stand’
Who better to comment on the state of our nation than the comedians who mock it best? This is the final weekend of “The Second City’s Almost Accurate Guide to America: Divided We Stand” at the Kennedy Center, 2700 F St. NW. You may think you know America, but if the last year has taught us anything, it’s that there are many different Americas to get to know. Performances are Thursday, Aug. 10, and Friday, Aug. 11, at 8 p.m.; Saturday, Aug. 12, at 6 and 9 p.m.; and Sunday, Aug. 13, at 3 and 7 p.m. The show is recommended for age 16 and up. Tickets are $49 and $59. For details, visit kennedy-center.org or call 800-444-1324.
Some musical acts worth catching on U Street and at Wolf Trap…
White Ford Bronco at U Street Music Hall
The five-member ensemble White Ford Bronco will perform at U Street Music Hall, 1115 U St. NW, on Friday, Aug. 11, at 7 p.m. The group has been sparking bouts of flannel-laden, slap-bracelet-snapping, pog-playing, big-butt-loving nostalgia across the Washington, D.C., area since 2008. Whatever flavor — be it alternative, rock, pop, R&B, hip hop or country — if it’s ’90s, they will play it. Admission is $22. For details, visit ustreetmusichall.com or call 202-588-1889.
Mary Chapin Carpenter and Lucinda Williams
On Saturday, Aug. 12, at 7:30 p.m., renowned singer-songwriter Mary Chapin Carpenter will return to Wolf Trap, 1551 Trap Road, Vienna, Virginia, to celebrate the 30th anniversary of “Hometown Girl.” Joining her will be her longtime friend and collaborator, three-time Grammy winner Lucinda Williams, for an exceptional evening of country and folk music. Tickets are $28 to $125. For details, visit wolftrap.org or call 703-255-1900.
About that yoga and brunch I mentioned…
Yoga on the Waterfront
All levels are welcome at a free yoga session on Saturday, Aug. 12, at 9:30 a.m. at Georgetown Waterfront Park, presented by Wellness Corporate Solutions. Participants should bring sunscreen, a water bottle, sun glasses and a positive attitude. Recommendations for post-yoga brunch spots will be provided. Other dates are Aug. 19 and 26. Georgetown Waterfront Park, 3303 Water St. NW.
On Sunday, before and after rum sampling, you can learn about exhibition design and watch the late Andrzej Wajda’s last film…
Rum Day DC Block Party
Rum Day DC will host a block party, “Rum This Block,” on 14th Street NW at the Whitman-Walker lot on Sunday, Aug. 13, from 2 to 7 p.m. The event will feature unlimited samples and cocktails, unlimited BBQ from Federalist Pig and music by Farrah Flosscett. Tickets are $30. For details, visit rumdaydc.com. Whitman-Walker Health, 1525 14th St. NW.
Exhibition Design Talk at the National Gallery
On Sunday, Aug. 13, at 2 p.m., the National Gallery of Art’s Senior Curator and Chief of Design Mark Leithauser will give a free talk, “Exhibition Design from ‘The Treasure Houses of Britain’ to ‘Diaghilev,’” in the East Building Auditorium, 150 4th St. NW. Washington Jewish Film Festival: ‘Afterimage’
‘Afterimage,’ Poland’s submission for the 89th Academy Awards will be screened on Sunday, Aug. 13, at 8:30 p.m. as part of the Washington Jewish Film Festival at the Edlavitch DCJCC, 1529 16th Street NW. In a finale to an illustrious moviemaking career, director Andrzej Wajda charts the life of the passionate artist Wladyslaw Strzeminski, who battled Stalinist orthodoxy and his own physical impairments to advance his progressive ideas about art. Admission is $13. For details, visit wjff.org or call 202-777-3242.
