‘The Bridges of Madison County’

The Keegan Theatre, 1742 Church St. NW, presents “The Bridges of Madison County,” adapted by composer Jason Robert Brown and playwright Marsha Norman from Robert James Waller’s best-selling novel about a love affair between a photographer and a housewife. Page-to-Stage New Play Festival

During the Kennedy Center’s Page-to-Stage festival, attendees will have an opportunity to take in free readings and open rehearsals by more than 60 D.C.-area theater companies. Highlights include a hip hop-infused version of “The Prince and the Pauper” on Saturday, Synetic Theater’s adaptation of “Sleepy Hollow” on Sunday and “Script Karaoke” on Monday. Rob Pruitt’s ‘Flea Market’

On Thursday, Aug. 30, Georgetown University’s new Maria & Alberto de la Cruz Art Gallery, 3535 Prospect St. NW, hosts the second and final day of ‘Flea Market,’ an interactive art fair that multimedia artist Rob Pruitt has staged around the country. Vibraphonist Warren Wolf

Library of Congress National Book Festival

The 18th annual Library of Congress National Book Festival will be held from 9 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 1, at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center, 801 Mount Vernon Place NW. The free event will feature 115 authors, including U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor, historian Doris Kearns Goodwin, novelist Amy Tan, former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, U.S. Poet Laureate Tracy K. Ziggy Marley at Wolf Trap

Labor Day Weekend Music Festival

Mayor Muriel Bowser and the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities present the 2018 Labor Day Weekend Music Festival on Saturday, Sept. 1, and Sunday, Sept. 2, at the Lincoln Theatre, 1215 U St. NW. Virginia Scottish Games

Celebrating Scottish and Celtic heritage, this family- and dog-friendly event at Great Meadow, 5089 Old Tavern Road in The Plains, Virginia, features athletics, piping and drumming, border collie demos, car and bike shows and children’s games. Single-day tickets are $20, $5 for age 12 and under on Saturday (admission is free for age 12 and under on Sunday). The gates open at 9 a.m. and close at 5 p.m. both days. Author Talk on Stanley Kubrick

Labor Day Capitol Concert

On Sunday, Sept. 2, at 8 p.m., soprano Leah Hawkins, an alumna of Washington National Opera’s Domingo-Cafritz Young Artist Program, and National Symphony Orchestra flutist Aaron Goldman and trombonist Craig Mulcahy will be the soloists at the NSO’s free Labor Day concert, guest-conducted by JoAnn Falletta, on the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol, East Capitol and First Streets NW. Labor Day Parade in Kensington

Adults and children are invited to march in a Washington Revels parade in Kensington, Maryland, on Monday, Sept. 3, at 9 a.m. Participants, who will dress in white and wear multi-colored sashes and arm ribbons (supplied by Revels) will be accompanied by the Hobby Horse, “Snap the Dragon” and a Smiling Sun, plus flags, banners and ribbon sticks. The parade will assemble at St. Paul Park, Plyers Mill Road and St. Paul Street. For details, visit revelsdc.org.
