Saturday-Night Carjacking Ends Safely


A Sept. 5 armed robbery and carjacking on 27th Street NW ended safely for a woman who lives nearby.  She was approached on the sidewalk by the suspect as she parked her car. The woman was unharmed and her phone and car were recovered.

Second District Cmdr. Duncan Bedlion of the Metropolitan Police Department told The Georgetowner: “The robbery occurred in the 1500 block of 27th Street NW on Sept. 5 at approximately 11:15 p.m. The suspect displayed a handgun and demanded the victim’s property. The suspect emptied the victim’s backpack and obtained keys and other property. The suspect then took the victim’s car, which was recovered a short time later in the 2500 block of East Place NW. The victim sustained no injuries, thankfully.”

John Rentzepis of the Citizens Association of Georgetown, who was on the scene that night assisting the victim, told residents: “Armed Robbery in the 1500 block of 27th Street at [approximately] 11 p.m.  Suspect armed with gun and wearing white mask. Last seen running into Rose Park area. Description of person involved – Top: Grey Shirt, Bottom: Jeans, Age: Middle-Aged, Build: Slim, Race: Black, Sex: Male.”
