‘NEIGHBOR AS THYSELF’ ART EXHIBITION LAUNCHES AT theTwelve
theTwelve’s second gallery exhibition opens Saturday, April 17th, 2021
Washington, D.C. (April 15, 2021) – DC collective theTwelve is pleased to announce the opening of its second gallery exhibition, “Neighbor As Thyself,” a group show exploring the relationships we have with one another, inspired by the ancient command to love thy neighbor as thyself.
Featuring the works of David R. Ibata, Craig Kraft, Rhema Jordan Labbe, and Serli Lala, this mixed media interactive experience will encourage visitors to engage and reflect on who we consider as our neighbor, and what it means to truly love my neighbor as myself.
“In furthering our exploration of interconnectedness, we asked each artist to directly correlate their own personal work with the idea of neighbor, particularly in this season of division and recent isolation. We accept this phrase and idea that we should love our neighbors just as we love ourselves, but what does that really mean in practical ways? How do we continue to expand on that and practice it in our own lives on a daily basis?,” says theTwelve co-creator, Lori Parkerson.
In the words of contributing artist Rhema Jordan Labbe for the show, “In setting an intention to love, give, and create lives that honor one another’s existence and the space we share, we find a remedy to division; a reason to celebrate our differences and observe our dualities.”
“Neighbor As Thyself” hopes to extract the notion that loving one’s neighbor is synonymous with loving one’s self; and community as being the antidote to ego.
The exhibition opens on Saturday, April 17th and will be open to the community every Wednesday through Saturday from 11am to 7pm, and every second Sunday of the month from 12pm to 4pm, until its closing on July 11th, 2021.
