Ins & Outs: Das, THE Artist Agency, Lou Lou, Baked & Wired

Award: Michelin’s Bib Gourmand Picks Das Again

The Michelin Guide has issued its Bib Gourmand list for 2021. Bib designees are moderately priced restaurants with noteworthy food (figure about $40 for dinner and drink).

Georgetown snagged only one such accolade: Sileshi Alifom’s Das Ethiopian restaurant, at the corner of 28th and M Streets NW.

No restaurants in Georgetown have any Michelin stars, as pointed out by Topher Matthews: “Two restaurants, 1789 and Fiola Mare, are on Michelin’s third tier list, Plate Michelin.”

D.C. restaurants on the 2021 Bib Gourmand list are: American Son, Astoria DC, Bidwell, Cane, Chercher, China Chilcano, Chloe, Das, Ellē (new on the list), Fancy Radish, Federalist Pig, Hanumanh, Hazel, Hitching Post (new on the list), Ivy City Smokehouse, Jaleo, Kaliwa, Karma Modern Indian (new on the list), Laos in Town, Lapis, Makan (new on the list), Maketto, Napoli Pasta Bar, Ottoman Taverna, Oyamel, Pearl Dive Oyster Palace, Primrose, Queen’s English (new on the list), Residents Cafe & Bar (new on the list), Sababa, Sfoglina, Stellina Pizzeria, Succotash, Taqueria Habanero, the Red Hen, Thip Khao, Timber Pizza Co., Toki Underground, Unconventional Diner, Zaytinya and Zenebech.

Merger: THE Artist Agency With Central Casting USA

Last month, THE Artist Agency announced that it has merged with Central Casting USA.

“Although a lot remains uncertain, we clearly see the trends and opportunities in our industry that will enable us to expand our business in 2021 and well into the future,” said the Georgetown-based company, led by Lynda Erkiletian and Elizabeth McDavitt-Centenari. “The fashion, beauty and entertainment industries continue to grow worldwide, while the lines between these once distinct markets blur and fade in the digital world. By expanding THE’s talent representation of models and stylists to include actors and voice-overs; we invite you to book any talent needed for your multimedia campaigns all in one place.”

Since 1985, THE Artist Agency has represented models and stylists worldwide — and its clients have been seen in the pages of The Georgetowner newspaper for many years.

Added the agency: “Paired with Central Casting USA’s reputation as the leading casting company for actors and voice talent for over half a century, our collaboration offers convenient access to our combined 85 years of unparalleled expertise.”

Out: Lou Lou

Cute, classy boutique Lou Lou, at 1304 Wisconsin Ave. NW, next to the Georgetown Inn, has closed. Established in 2004 in Middleburg, Virginia, by husband-and-wife team Tara and Ben Wegdam, Lou Lou operates stores from Massachusetts to Georgia.

Congrats: Baked & Wired Turns 20

Georgetown’s famed cupcake-and-coffee spot at 1052 Thomas Jefferson St. NW — hard by the C&O Canal — is celebrating its 20th anniversary. Founded by Tony and Teresa Velazquez, Baked & Wired describes itself as “your worst-kept secret since 2001.” Offering “authentic, hole-in-the-wall coffee and baked goods served by total sweethearts with face tattoos,” the place is also known for its “hippie crack” granola, pies and other goodies. When you get to the front of the line, say: “Happy anniversary!”
