Out: La Jolie Bleue Closes Today
We sadly report that today is the last day for La Jolie Bleue, the sweet and savory bakery at 1560 Wisconsin Ave. NW. The popular dine-in and takeout spot, run by Tahar and Djamila Slimani, is looking for a new home in Georgetown. We wish them an especially Happy Thanksgiving — and hope to see them soon in the neighborhood, where they have been for years.
Out: Closing Sale at Budd & Co.
Leaving Georgetown in the next few weeks — and offering more than half price on items — is Budd & Co., a concept house of British brands, bespoke suiting and fine leather accessories, which opened May 6 at 2824 Pennsylvania Ave. NW, near the Four Seasons Hotel. Budd & Co. Washington, the brand’s first foray into the U.S. market, an extension of Budd Shirtmakers in London’s Piccadilly Arcade, had replaced Sterling & Burke, a luxe British clothing and gift store that was at the same address for eight years.

Avocado Green Mattress, makers of organic and eco-luxury sleep and lifestyle products, will open its first Washington, D.C., location at 3336 M St. NW in Georgetown on Friday, Nov. 26. In addition to organically made mattresses, bedding and bath linens, the 4,946-square-foot store features the company’s newly-launched beauty and apparel lines, Reed and Gwen and Hass. Launched in 2016 as an affordable, organic mattress alternative, Avocado has since expanded to furniture, linens and other bedroom essentials which will fill the two-story Georgetown space. Designed in Hoboken and handmade in sunny California, Avocado mattresses are made with certified organic, natural and non-toxic materials.

Masala Street Indian Eatery — “an authentic Indian restaurant with a modern twist” — opened at 3206 O St. NW earlier this month in the former Georgetown Dinette space. In light of this week’s holiday, let us say, “Namaste.”
In: Ally Banks on Book Hill
Ally Banks Interiors opened at 1661 Wisconsin Ave. NW — in the former Egg store — a few weeks ago. Banks, who specializes in business interior design consultations and products, tells us: “While I am very focused on having one of a kind pieces in my projects, I mix these pieces with beautiful fabrics and furniture pieces from various design showrooms, furniture shows, favorite websites and big home retailers. My interiors tend to be a mix of price points and I will encourage my clients to splurge in certain places and pull back in others.”
