•A beautifully illustrated hardbound coffee table book, “Beachside,” by House Beautiful’s Digital Editor Hadley Keller was launched at a champagne and pastries reception on March 11 at the antique and décor shop Pillar and Post at 1647 Wisconsin Ave. NW.
Former lobbyist-turned-antique seller Daphna Peled welcomed friends and fans of the author and store — as several commented how many neighbors have another house in the Sunshine State. The book features a selection of luxury Windsor Architecture and Design homes in the planned village of Windsor in Vero Beach, Florida.
“While the idea was to highlight exclusively designed living rooms, kitchens, studios and the like in the custom designed homes by A-list architects, I soon discovered that the unique private entrance gardens and inner court yards — many with pools and fountains — were the most important and beloved feature,” Keller told The Georgetowner. In fact, she writes, “the first step of the Windsor architectural plan was to decide where on the property the sun and breezes created the best placement for the courtyard, and then the house was kind of wrapped around that.”
“Beachside” took about a year and a half to complete, complicated by pandemic protocol limitations. Keller only got to visit the island once. But since she has been writing about home designs for decades, she had lots of professional contacts with architects and landscapers, decorators and designers who could detail the diverse home and courtyard layouts. The lush photos — many on full pages— are the work of Jessica Klewicki Glynn. The book is published by Vendome Press.
