Weekend Round Up, April 28 – May 1


Happy weekend! So much to do the next few days in the neighborhood including the Georgetown French Market and a new coffee shop grand opening. Don’t miss the one-weekend-only performances of The Washington Ballet’s “Giselle,” a book festival and much more.

Magnifique! The Georgetown French Market Returns 

This weekend, the 19th annual Georgetown French Market returns! The open-air market inspired by the ones typically seen in France, will feature 30+ locally-owned businesses plus lots of sidewalk sales and specials. There’ll be a caricature artist, music, stilt-walkers and so much more. Don’t miss all the delicious French food too, from croissants to macarons and beyond. Sidewalks along Book Hill will be temporarily widened to allow for more room to enjoy. More information on the French Market can be found here.

The Washington Ballet’s “Giselle” Opens This Evening

The Washington Ballet’s production of “Giselle” opens this evening at the Warner Theatre. Choreography by Julie Kent and Victor Barbee bring to life the ultimate tale of tragedy and true love with a sprinkle of betrayal. Performances run this weekend only, so grab a ticket while you can! Inaugural Washington Capitals Bubble & Table Hockey Festival This Weekend 

The Hilton Garden Inn on 14th St. NW is hosting the very first Washington Capitals Bubble & Table Hockey Festival this weekend. In partnership with the Caps NHL team and the World Table Hockey Association, the event will feature a competitive tournament open to onlookers. A chance to play recreationally will be included. This Friday marks the festival launch and watch party at 6 p.m. followed by tournament play Saturday at 10 a.m. and playoff rounds and recreational play Sunday at 11 a.m. More information on how to compete in the tournament here. Bitty & Beau’s Coffee Grand Opening this Saturday 

The North Carolina-based coffee shop that won CNN’s 2017 Hero of the Year award is opening a shop at 3207 M St. NW. The ribbon cutting will take place Saturday in front of the store. Bitty & Beau’s hires employees with intellectual and developmental disabilities, allowing them the opportunity to become more valued, accepted and included in their communities. Get Your Dance on at Project Glow  

Project GLOW is a celebration of 20 years of D.C. dance culture. The event will be held at the RFK Festival Grounds April 30 and May 1. There will be multiple stages with dozens of performers, food trucks, a photo booth and more. Don’t miss art installations throughout the grounds too. You can find out more about the festival here.

Literary Lovers: Don’t Miss the Literary Hill Book Fest Sunday 

From 11 a.m.- 3 p.m., the Literary Hill Book Fest is back after a three-year hiatus. Authors specializing in fiction, historical books, memoirs, poetry and more will be on hand for discussions and readings. Bring the whole family as there are kids’ activities too, including book readings and a talk from scientist and former Smithsonian director Eva Pell.
