•“Up in the Sky” With Glossier Beauty Brand
This Friday, July 29, Georgetown welcomes Glossier Beauty Brand’s fifth location at 3065 M St. NW in the former Sephora location, which moved two blocks west last year. The new 7,200 square feet store is inspired by the Jet Age and all things aviation — and draws upon “D.C.’s rich history as an international nexus and home to both Union Station and the Air and Space Museum,” the company says.
The immersive store will transport guests “up in the sky” by featuring retro inspired arrivals and departures signs, runway lightning and seating modeled after airplane wings. The setting is decorated in the brand’s signature pale, pink palette and offers “new arrivals” a selfie room designed to look like an airplane window. Guests are invited to sample Glossier’s timeless essentials focused on skincare, fragrance, make-up and body care. They are welcome to chat with on-site product experts before jetting off!
In addition, the company says, customers will be able to buy an exclusive Glossier Luggage Tag with an accompanying key ring that has your very own “Glossier Wings” that can only be purchased at the new Georgetown location. For each tag sold at Glossier DC, the brand is donating $5 to Build Metro DC, a non-profit organization that works with youth in under-resourced communities to build career success, entrepreneurial mindsets, and opportunity.
Out: Scilla & Luna Goes Online
There’s a going-out of-business sale for handcrafted goods store Scilla & Luna at Book Hill. The mother-daughter owned business wrote to its customers: “It is with a heavy heart that we announce that we will be closing our brick and mortar store here at Scilla + Luna. We have been so incredibly fortunate to have been able to do this lil dream of ours and to do so in D.C. was even more incredible. We are so thankful to all of you that have come and visited us during our time at 1675 Wisconsin Avenue. And while it’s a goodbye to our brick and mortar, it’s not a full goodbye. If you’ve been with us since 2018 you’ll know we once were an online shop focusing on our own personal and individual craft art. In an effort to focus more on our individual works, we will be returning back to our origins. You can still come and see us up until the end of August, where we will be having a going out of business sale until then, as well as selling off some of our furniture pieces. Our online shop will be closed as we refocus (re-opening tba). As Eli has started a new job our hours are a bit funky so keep a look out on instagram, as we will be posting the schedule weekly.”
Out: Fine Rugs NY
And there’s a lost-our-lease sale at 1251 Wisconsin Ave. NW for Fine Rugs NY. Owned by the Mashihi family since 1916, the shop sells fine antique rugs, vintage and rare rugs, tapestries and fine arts from around the world – while also serving as a consultant and appraiser for many estates. The savings go up to 80 percent off.
