Jewelers’Werk Galerie is pleased to present Chain Reaction, an exhibition of new and signature work by artist-jeweler Biba Schutz from Friday, May 5 through Friday, May 26, 2023. Come to meet the artist on Friday, May 5th and Saturday, May 6th from 11 am to 5 pm.
In this aptly titled show, Schutz centers the concept and form of the chain to anchor the collection of necklaces, earrings, and brooches, most of which are constructed with this configuration. Schutz finds significance in the power of the chain in which “unlike links connected are stronger together than apart,” she reflects. In addition to the form of the chain in silver and sometimes bronze, Schutz adds dark and light mica, vibrant minerals and stones, and reconstituted handmade paper. Schutz’s work continues to be informed by her New York City surroundings. “My environment is urban—in the city of glass and concrete I explore space, shadows, and nature.”
Biba Schutz received her BA in Design from American University in Washington, DC and is a self-taught jewelry artist. She has exhibited nationally and internationally, and her work is in the collections of Corning Museum of Glass, Corning, NY; Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, MA; Newark Museum, Newark, NJ; Racine Art Museum, Racine, WI; Smithsonian Renwick Gallery, Washington, DC; Rotasa Foundation, Mill Valley, CA. Schutz lives and works in New York City.
The exhibition is open during gallery hours: Monday through Saturday 11 am – 5 pm or by appointment. Jewelers’Werk Galerie is located at 3319 Cady’s Alley, NW in the Georgetown neighborhood of Washington, DC. It is the longest-running and only contemporary art jewelry gallery of its kind in the greater Washington DC area, where owner and industry veteran Ellen Reiben shows precious and non-precious works by international artist-jewelers.
