Mission Possible: Tom Cruise Stuns Georgetown Audience

We know that actor Tom Cruise likes to do his own stunts. Apparently, he also likes to do his own promotions and marketing as well. Call it the ultimate movie star pop-up.

Cruise surprised the audience on Tuesday at the AMC Georgetown 14 movie theater on K Street that was about to begin the 2:30 p.m. showing of “Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning, Part One.”  The film’s director, Christopher McQuarrie, also walked in front of the movie screen to greet the audience.

“I’m very excited to be able to have this opportunity and this time to be able to saw you this big screen,” Cruise told the theatergoers, referring to the movie industry’s need to draw people back into theaters. “This is why we do it, this moment right here. So, you all enjoy.”

“My wife’s jaw dropped. I was elated,” Ravi Khanna told the Washington Post. “I remember squinting to make sure it’s really him.…   It’s something I’ll always remember for the rest of my life. I felt like a kid the rest of the day.… There was an element of shock, no question,” Khanna said. “I didn’t know how I was going to sleep that night.”

Well, this surprise is enough to make some 9-to-5 workers consider agreeing to meet their friends who regularly sneak off to afternoon matinees.

And, yes, there was free popcorn.
