A frightening night in the heart of Georgetown’s commercial district.
Across from gold-domed PNC Bank and above Todd Snyder men’s wear store at 3211 M Street NW, a fire broke out, sending smoke billowing from the dormer windows aloft the three-story commercial building, and triggering a multi-alarm response from DC Fire & EMS.

Though firefighters were able to suppress the blaze, one was reported to be evaluated for injuries battling the fire.
“This just in from our Alert Desk,” a TV news anchor began 7News at 5:54 a.m. this morning. “There’s a fire in Georgetown that firefighters have been working on overnight – one firefighter being evaluated. And now you’re seeing some photos from DC Fire & EMS…”

According to first responders on the scene, the fire broke out in a utility closet on an upper floor and then “extended into attic space.”
At 11:59 p.m., DC Fire & EMS posted on the social media site “X”: “Working Fire: 3200 Block of M Street NW – Fire in three story mixed use development. Fire in utility closet with extension to attic space. No injuries to report.”

A call to Todd Snyder’s yielded a simple message, “We are temporarily closed.” But callers are encouraged to reach out to one of the store’s other locations or visit toddsnyder.com.
