Vote Yes to Secure DC Bill, Tell the Council, Show Up at Tomorrow’s Meeting

Community groups across the city have urged their representatives to support the Secure DC Omnibus Amendment Act of 2024. On Tuesday, the Council of the District of Columbia will vote on the measure for the second and final time. These same groups plan to have their own people at the Council meeting.

One such community group is the Citizens Association of Georgetown, whose Executive Director Brittany Sawyer has written to those concerned about crime in the city. Below is her letter.

Dear Neighbor,

Public safety is one of the biggest threats facing our community.  Do your part to make our neighborhood safer by contacting the D.C. City Council TODAY and urge them to vote YES in support of the Secure DC Omnibus Amendment Act of 2024. The second vote is scheduled for Tuesday, March 5 at 11:00 AM.

We have been informed that advocacy groups outside of DC and the architect behind the Defund the DC Police movement have organized groups and are expected to show up in person at the meeting to disrupt the vote. As residents, our voice should outnumber the outside opposition. We ask that you write an email to the entire District Council today and/or attend the City Council Meeting in person tomorrow.
