The National Portrait Gallery’s New Exhibit Celebrates the Presidents
Now through June 2025, the National Portrait Gallery is celebrating the presidency with “Picturing the Presidents: Daguerreotypes and Ambrotypes” from the museum’s collection. To mark the 2024 presidential election, this exhibit presents daguerrotypes and ambrotypes of eight men, from John Quincy Adams to Chester Arthur, who were president of the U.S. during the 19th century. Wolf Trap’s “Out & About” Festival Is This Weekend
Grammy winner Brittany Howard headlines Wolf Trap’s “Out & About Festival” this Saturday. Don’t miss the celebration in honor of Pride month, which will also feature indie-pop artist Jenny Lewis and musical group Lawrence. There will be food, community connection and more at this celebration of LGBTQ+ allies and artists. More information on how to get tickets can be found here. The Kennedy Center Presents Special Night Amidst “10,000 Dreams: A Celebration of Asian Choreography” Festival
A special one-night-only performance June 21 honors the history and legacy of the late choreographer Choo San Goh. Ballet West, the Houston Ballet, Pacific Northwest Ballet, Singapore Ballet, Goh Ballet (featuring members of the National Ballet China, the Dana Tai Soon Burgess Company and, of course, the Washington Ballet will be featured in the performance. The late Singaporean-born Choo San Goh served as resident choreographer and associate artistic director for The Washington Ballet for nearly a decade. More information on the event can be found here.
The Folger Shakespeare Library Has Its Grand Reopening
The Folger Shakespeare Library has undergone a huge, four-year renovation. Its spot on Capitol Hill has become more accessible and reimagined for the 21st century. Visitors of all ages are welcome to a ribbon cutting ceremony Friday at 10 a.m. The inaugural show at Folger is “Imprints in Time,” drawn from the peerless collection of Ohio-based collectors Stuart and Mimi Rose. The show will include a curated display of books and manuscripts that document some of the greatest achievements in writing and creativity. More information on the Folger reopening can be found here.
Ooo la la…Fête De La Musique is on June 21
Every year, thousands of cities all over the world throw music celebrations around the summer solstice. More than 40 years ago in France, the Ministry of Culture thought of an idea where free, live music would be on every street corner, parks, rooftops and gardens. Georgetown is hosting its own “Fête De La Musique” Friday evening from 5 to 8 p.m. throughout town. Don’t miss church choirs, jazz bands, glee clubs and more. Zenith Gallery Presents: “Dreamy Days of Summer”
