Happy Labor Day weekend! There is so much to do this weekend, including the 20th anniversary of the DC JazzFest. The weekend roundup begins with five events, and at the bottom you’ll see the DC JazzFest corner. Enjoy the official end of summer 2024!
Catch The Roots at Wolf Trap

The Roots, who many may know as the house band for “The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon,” will be performing at Wolf Trap’s Filene Center Saturday at 8 p.m. Led by Questlove and Black Thought, the band has been hailed as “one of the 20 greatest live acts in the world” by Rolling Stone. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and more information can be found here.
Spend Labor Day Weekend at Glen Echo Park

Don’t miss Labor Day weekend at Glen Echo Park, a three-day long extravaganza of the arts. The 53rd Annual Labor Day Art Show will be Saturday through Monday from noon to 6 p.m., with an opening reception Friday from 7:30-9 p.m. There are also plans for a “Social Dance Free-for-All” in the Bumper Car Pavilion. Members Only Event: Mount Vernon After Hours

Friday from 6-8:30 p.m., check out Mount Vernon “After Hours,” a members-only event where the grounds will be open, and picnics will be available for purchase from the Mount Vernon Inn Restaurant. Members will get 20 percent off all purchases from the Shops Friday evening as well. More information can be found here.
“Life After War” Opens at Amy Kaslow Gallery

Opening this evening at Amy Kaslow Gallery, “Life After War” showcases 15 installations pairing intimate human portraits with storyboards. The traveling exhibit will focus on how individuals are pushed through human trafficking, gangs, government repression, sexual violence and more. More information on the exhibit can be found here.
Mamma Mia! It’s the Iconic Musical’s Final Weekend at The Kennedy Center

The long-running musical set to ABBA’s hits is ending its summer Kennedy Center run on September 1. Mamma Mia! tells the story of a mom, her daughter and three possible dads, all set aside the backdrop of an island paradise. More information can be found here.

Thursday, August 29
There are only two events that are not sold out yet: The Ebban & Ephraim Dorsey Quintet will be at The Kennedy Center at 6 p.m. and Paul Carr with The Junto Trio will appear at Takoma Station at 7 p.m.
Friday, August 30
Shannon Gunn’s Saffron at The Kennedy Center will begin at 6 p.m., with Jazz Night in DC at Westminster Church at 6 p.m. as well. Jacob Collier will be at The Anthem at 7:30 p.m. and three-time Grammy winner Samara Joy appears afterward at 8:50 p.m. (also at The Anthem). D-Nice ends the party at The Anthem at 10:10 p.m.
Saturday, August 31
There is so much to check out on Saturday it’s hard to put it all in just a paragraph or two! The day begins with Reginald Cyntje at The Wharf’s Transit Pier. Later that day, don’t miss Jazzfest Jam at Union Stage at 5:30 p.m., along with Confluencia at the same time. Cimafunk is at the Wharf’s District Pier at 6:55 p.m. and jazz multi-hyphenate Carmen Lundy rounds out the day at Arena Stage at 9:45 p.m.
Sunday, September 1
Kicking off Sunday is B.J. Simmons at The Wharf’s Transit Pier at 12 noon. Later that same afternoon, check out jazz bass player Clovis Nicolas and the Clovis Nicolas Quarter. Dianne Reeves hits the stage at The Wharf’s District Pier at 5 p.m. Finally, the Corcoran Holt Quintet ends the event at Union Stage at 9:30 p.m.
