This Saturday morning, December 14, Dumbarton United Methodist Church is offering a continental breakfast, crafts and games for the kids, and sessions with a costumed Santa helper. In addition, there will be an alternative giving fair supporting such great organizations as the Georgetown Ministry Center, Project Transformation, and the Reconciling Ministries Network. Join us this Saturday for food, fun, and giving from 10:00 AM to noon at 3133 Dumbarton St. NW, just off Wisconsin Avenue in Georgetown.
Perhaps better known as home of the renowned Dumbarton Concert Series, the church also offers its Adult Ed program to anyone interested on Sunday mornings except between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Our Adult Ed sessions are devoted to current issues, local and national history, and new research of likely interest to those beyond its church-going community. The variety of topics and presenters keep the program interesting, and each session includes time for a generally lively discussion. This Sunday, we will ponder what good we are called to do in this broken world, knowing that we are not obligated to complete that work but are also not free to abandon it. Next Sunday, the 22nd, our musical director and concert pianist, Stefan Petrov, will lead our annual singing of Christmas carols. If either of our upcoming offerings interests you, please join us at ten, either in person or by Zoom, using this link: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/89889260574.
Dumbarton is an inclusive faith community that seeks, serves, and celebrates. Its congregation voted to welcome LGBTQ people and their families in 1987, and we have been celebrating their gifts and commitment to our community ever since. It is also committed to becoming a more anti-racist church. We are biblical Christians, but believe Jesus’s most important commandment is to love all our neighbors – to welcome the hurting, the doubting, the lost, and the intellectually curious, believers and non-believers alike. You are not alone. In God’s neighborhood, we all can belong. If you think Dumbarton might be a good spiritual home for you, come as you are! You can join us in-person at 11:00 AM at 3133 Dumbarton Street NW, or on Zoom, where our in-person worship will be broadcast simultaneously.
