Georgetown Has the Highest Ticketed Block in D.C.

The most ticketed block in all of Washington, D.C., is right here in Georgetown, according to data from Park Van Ness,

Thomas Jefferson Street NW located in lower Georgetown amassed a total of 345 tickets in the month of March alone (roughly 11 tickets a day), making it the most ticketed location within the District of Columbia. The street runs from K Street to M Street between 30th and 31st streets on the east side of Georgetown. Popular points of interest on the streets are the C&O Canal, Baked & Wired cupcake shop and the Graham Hotel.

Staff from Park Van Ness, an apartment complex located off of Connecticut Avenue NW, examined data from March 2016. Data was pulled from the District of Columbia’s Open Data website that lists parking violations throughout the city.

Park Van Ness found that the most frequently ticketed time is just after 4 p.m. (4:02 p.m. to be exact), a not surprising fact due to the restriction on parking after 4 p.m. The rest of the top ten in most frequent ticket times were from 4:01 to 4:10 p.m.

Besides the times of ticketing, Park Van Ness also found that the most commonly ticketed driver hailed from Maryland. D.C. drivers were second, with Virginia drivers, Pennsylvania drivers and New Jersey drivers respectively following in frequency.

Drivers are found to be ticketed most frequently for an expired meter, which totaled in 17,461 recorded violations. The second total was the failure to display a multispace meter receipt, coming in at 15,230.
