30th St. Resurfacing Begins Aug. 6

Editor’s note: This story has been updated. Because of the weather, repaving for 30th Street has been rescheduled to take place from Aug. 6 to 11, with restricted parking from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. The latest plan is to start at P Street and head south, working two blocks at a time, but this is subject to change.

A major paving project will begin the evening of Aug. 6 on 30th Street NW between K and P Streets. Expect disruptions in traffic and parking.

Below is the memo from Art Arias, P.E., Supervisory Civil Engineer, District Department of Transportation.

DDOT will conduct an evening and nighttime Roadway Resurfacing Project (Milling and Paving) along 30th Street NW between K Street NW and P Street NW beginning the evening of [Aug. 6]. The total time for construction is estimated to take three to five days with the possibility of a delay between permanent line striping and asphalt construction.

During the Roadway Resurfacing construction, residents may experience elevated noise levels. Construction staging and work on this roadway may only take place during the evening and night due to the flow of traffic constraints and parking needs during the day. The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) has discussed the impacts of the Roadway Resurfacing work with both the ANC and the Ward 2 Council Office.

Curbside parking will be restricted at this location from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. “EMERGENCY NO PARKING” signs will be posted seventy-two (72) hours prior to the commencement of construction in your area. All residents in this area will receive a copy of this letter alerting them to this work. All work will be conducted from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m., Monday through Friday.

Parking enforcement will ticket and tow or relocate vehicles in violation of the signage. If your vehicle is towed, please call 311.

If unforeseen issues, such as inclement weather, do not permit our contractor to begin work on the date scheduled a new start date for construction will be posted on the No Parking Signs located on the poles and trees throughout the construction project site.

This work will be performed in two phases. Roadway resurfacing projects may include the construction of roadway striping, removal of asphalt, asphalt paving, and crosswalks striping.

Throughout construction access to surrounding homes and businesses will be maintained. District Traffic Control Standards might require the partial closure or complete closure to all traffic on the block where work is taking place. If the block is closed to traffic, residents may access their homes by coming up to the cones at the closure and requesting access to the traffic control flag person.

DDOT thanks you in advance for your patience and understanding during the construction. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Project Engineer Mr. Maurice Prince at 202-345-2832.

The only other DDOT repaving work in Georgetown is on Cambridge Place.
