The roughly 20 white nationalists who showed up in the District for the “Unite the Right 2” rally on Sunday, Aug. 12, were dwarfed by thousands of counterprotesters, who descended upon Lafayette Square across from the White House to denounce hatred and bigotry. It was the first anniversary of the deadly “Unite the Right” event in Charlottesville, Virginia. The gathering aimed to bring together multiple white-nationalist organizations, including neo-Nazis. A massive police presence kept the opposition groups safely separated.
