After being kidnapped while reporting in Syria in 2014, Austin Bennett Tice remains the only American journalist being held overseas today. He served as a Marine in Iraq and then went to Georgetown University Law School. He has worked for McClatchy and CBS News.
A coalition of D.C. restaurants are joining the National Press Club, the Washington Post, Georgetown University and Reporters Without Borders to raise awareness of Tice’s case — and to raise more reward money through the Night Out program.
On Thursday, May 2, participating restaurants will donate a pledged percentage of their proceeds to an Austin Tice fund. The money will go toward increasing the FBI’s reward offer for Tice, which stands at $1 million. Dinner at restaurants such as Pizza Paradiso, Hank’s Oyster Bar, Zaytinya, 1789, Capitol Lounge and Martin’s Tavern will contribute to the cause.
